Football is life for certain High School students living in middle America. It's even more important than mom and homemade apple pie. Friday Night Lights depicts the darker side of High School Football, showing us a world of young men pressured into fighting for something as trivial as school spirit. Of course, it would be foolish to suggest that this was the only thing the series does, as there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than just a game of football. What long and strange journey the Friday Night Lights franchise has taken. What began as a nonfiction account of high school football’s domination over a small Texas town inspired a critically acclaimed movie followed by a critically acclaimed TV show just two years later. What remains constant throughout is a refreshingly realistic look at Middle American life as seen through the lens of the children and adults affected by athletics. Although it isn't always pretty, the dedication on display is certainly admirable. Everyone has a dream they want to achieve.
