The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games is a book about a fictional post-apocalyptic world in which children must fight to the death. Needless to say, it's a very bleak outlook on the future, but what post-apocalyptic story isn't? This young adult sci-fi series has become one of the more popular books in the world, inspiring even movie studios to sign on for a series of films based on the books. In a post-apocalyptic future, children are pitted against each other in a grand fight to the death in what are known as the hunger games. However, when 16 year old Katniss Everdeen and her childhood friend Peeta Mellark are forced into the tournament, they will set off a chain of events that will forever change their totalitarian world. The Hunger Games trilogy of young adult books are currently being turned into movies starring Academy-Award nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence whom you may know from Winter's Bone but more likely will recognize as Mystique from the new X-Men: First Class.
