Married with Children was a cult classic in the late 80s and early 90s. Its quirky, hysterical characters and slew of bathroom humor and adult innuendos can appeal to a full range of people. Created as a means of pure escapism, the script was intended to be sort of an anti-sitcom sitcom. Unlike all the other sitcoms of the time that taught the value of family, honesty and overcoming obstacles, Married with Children focused on the dysfunctional, immoral family that used humor to cope with their everyday monotonous life. Some critics believe that this escapism was what appealed to normal people who faced similar obstacles on a daily basis.
